North East People’s Assembly Launch Appeal
Saturday 14th September • Northern Stage • Newcastle
The launch of the People’s Assembly in the north-east promises to be one of the most
important regional initiatives in the fight against austerity. The event will see wellknown
journalist and activist Owen Jones and comedian Mark Steel join Beth
Farhat (Regional Secretary of the Northern TUC), local trade union leaders,
representatives of anti-cuts groups and other campaigns in a full day of talks,
workshop activities and cultural events.
During the event we will be discussing, initiating and coordinating action across a wide
range of issues; from defending the NHS to opposing the hated Bedroom Tax, from
tackling racism to how best to organise against the cuts, strengthen our trade unions and
build resistance. There will be a total of ten workshops and a full programme of
entertainment and cultural activities in the evening.

The North-East Peoples Assembly follows-directly on from the the inaugural People’s
Assembly which was held in London in June. Over 4,000 delegates attended it and
initiated a statement of aims which can be seen at: http://thepeoplesassembly.org.uk/
As you will appreciate organising all this takes a considerable amount of funding.
We are asking your organisation to invite all your members to the event and to
make a donation by writing out a cheque to “Coalition of Resistance Tyne and
Wear”, c/o 1 Redwood Grove, Sunderland. SR3 2NP.
You are also more than welcome to send delegates to participate in our regular
organising meetings – please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Yours in solidarity,
