1. NE PAAA 14 SEPTEMBER:

 

  • 270 tickets sold so far, 180 remaining – everyone to continue promoting event
  • Advert in the Crack Magazine
  • Thousands of flyers handed out at Newcastle Mela, South Shields anti-racism protest, Save Sunderland Libraries and various other venues and events.
  • FUNDING:
  • Ticket sales will only cover cost of Northern Stage hire hence need for fundraising
  • £100 donation received from Newcastle Unite Engineering Branch
  • ***Clare Williams investigating Unison Northern Region donation to NE PAAA, likely to be decided at Unisons regional committee meeting on Friday***
  • ***Martin Levy reported that he is putting resolution forward at Northern TUC meeting to ask all affiliated unions to donate to the NE PAAA***
  • ***Mark Tyers reported that he had sent out NE PAAA funding appeal to many local trade union organisations- he will chase up***
  • ***Meeting agreed to have donation buckets available throughout the NE PAAA at the registration desk and particularly during afternoon plenary and at interval of NE PAAA evening show. Martin Levy to organise appeal during afternoon plenary, Joan Hewitt to organise appeal during evening show***
  • SPEAKERS, WORKSHOPS AND VENUES
  • Hana Biele is unable to speak in ‘Racism, immigration and the cuts session’
  • ***Show Racism the Red Card representatives confirmed they would be able to sort a speaker out for the ‘Racism, immigration and the cuts session’ and have a stall at this workshop***
  • ***Joan Hewitt to investigate using upstairs gallery space as venue for stalls***
  • ***Meeting agreed to propose that ‘Resist’ would be the word of the day at Northern Stage on 14 September – Joan Hewitt to sort***

 

  • STEWARDING AND TICKETS
  • All the volunteer stewards to meet at 9.30am at registration desk in Northern Stage for pre-event briefing (except for those only able attend afternoon and evening sessions)
  • All event ticket holders asked to “sign-in” at registration desk
  • ***Jerry Drake to sort out ink stamps which stewards will use to stamp ticket holders hands as many people will forget to print out ticket***
  • ***Tony Pierre to ask Unison for bibs/armbands for stewards***
  • ***Mark Tyers to coordinate stewarding on the day and sort out stewarding rota***

 

  • MEDIA
  • ***Matthew Giles reported that Spark TV are now unable to cover event, so he will approach Utter Legends and Digital Voices to video the event instead***
  • ***Mark Husmann confirmed he will extensively photograph event***
  • ***Joan Hewitt to send out press release***
  • ***Joan Hewitt and Mark Tyers to do promo interview on Spice FM***

 

  • ACCESSIBILITY
  • All venues are wheel-chair accessible but need to establish which have induction loops
  • ***Mark Tyers and Alex Snowdon to send out appeal for signers, establish anything else we can do to make event more accessible and for disabled attendees to get in contact with their needs for the day***

 

  • SIGNAGE FOR DELEGATES FINDING VENUES AND FACILITIES
  • ***Simon Hall and Matthew Giles to establish signs and other ways for delegates to find session venues and facilities***
  • PROGRAMME
  • ***Suggestion were made to improve programme, Simon Hall to revise and print single-sheet programme for all attendees***

 

2. LOCAL PEOPLES ASSEMBLIES

  • Sunderland and Durham Peoples Assemblies are meeting this week
  • NE PAAA to promote all local PAAA assemblies by advertising meetings, actions etc.
  • ***Sign-up sheets for local PAAA to be available at all times on registration desk at NE PAAA on 14 September and several appeals to be made during plenary’s and evening show for people to get involved in their local PAAA group***
  • ***Matthew Giles to provide local PAAA organisers with online sign-ups***

 

3. MASS LEAFLETTING ON 7 SEPT FOR NE PAAA AND SAVE OUR NHS DEMO

  • ***Saturday 7 September, assemble 12pm outside Haymarket Metro station. Volunteers encouraged to bring placards. Contact Simon 0191 253 5029 or Alex 07792 591 610 if you can help.***

 

4. 29 SEPTEMBER COACHES TO SAVE OUR NHS DEMO

  • Unison branches are putting on coaches from all over the north-east which are open to non-Unison members – see Unison Northern region website for details
  • Unison Newcastle coach departs from Newcastle Civic Centre at 7.30am on Sunday 29 September and returns in the evening. Tickets cost £5 waged or £3 unwaged, please contact Unison Newcastle office, Ed Whitby, Mark Tyers or reply to this email to book and pay for seats.
