North East People’s Assembly with Owen Jones & Mark Steel on 14th September at Northern Stage
Join our North East Peoples Assembly in Newcastle next Saturday 14th September, which is bringing together all those fighting the cuts in response to the coalition government’s attacks on pay, jobs, services and welfare provision.
We are joined by author & commentator Owen Jones, comedian & Independent columnist Mark Steel, Northern Region TUC Regional Manager Beth Farhat and many more for day of discussion & an evening of entertainment at Northern Stage.
With around 80% of the austerity measures still to be implemented, and with the government now prolonging the expected period of cuts, the People’s Assembly aims to develop a strategy for resistance that will mobilise millions of people against the coalition government’s failing economic agenda.
Launched in London on 22 June when over 4,000 anti-cuts activists from all around the UK met to build a ‘People’s Assembly Against Austerity’, our north east Assembly will bring together all those fighting the cuts into a broad democratic alliance on a local basis.
National and the local Assemblies, in partnership with Trades Unions, Trades Councils, campaigning and community groups, can unite our movement and strengthen our campaigns. Local Assemblies will help us to organise a recalled National Assembly to review our work in the early spring of 2014.
The government’s austerity programme does not work; it is unjust, immoral and undemocratic. Alternatives exist: debts can be dropped; privatisation can be reversed; common ownership embraced, and much more.
Please come along to the event next Saturday & join us in building a united national movement of resistance.
